Sri Lanka to host 2nd API Asia Conference 2023 to fuel digital transformation

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will host the second API Asia Conference in November focusing on three critical pillars of the digital ecosystem Artificial Intelligence (AI), Smart Cities and Financial Technology (FinTech), officials said.

It will be one of the key events President Ranil Wickremesinghe government is focusing for a digital economy under the theme of “DigiEcon Sri Lanka 2030”.

At its core, the API Asia conference 2023 seeks to underscore the critical importance of digital transformation and the need for businesses to harness the power of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). The conference encourages participants to explore the possibilities of connecting with APIs, the organizers said in a statement.

Organized by the Federation of Information Technology Sri Lanka (FITIS), the API Asia Conference 2023 will be held on November 15 at Shangri-La hotel and see over 500 participants from 250 companies across the region. The event is held after a lapse of four years.

“These topics are very important to the digital economy ecosystem, and this will also improve the awareness of connecting technology in the government sector, private sector, as well as the general public,” Kanaka Herath, State Minister for Technology, told reporters in Colombo.

“This will also increase the capacity of both the government and private sector. This is very important for us. Under DigiEcon 2030, we are looking into the acceleration of the industry and beyond and also looking into the ICT sector.”

The main objective of the DigiEcon 2030 is to have a digital economy framework to help to stabilize the crisis-hit Sri Lanka’s economy by leveraging technology.

FITIS Chairman Indika De Zoysa said embracing technology is a formidable task, as it requires juggling technology integration, financial management and sustainable growth, all while ensuring that investments for the future are made with informed decision-making.

“Technology plays a major role as the enabler in this context, making events like API Asia 2023 invaluable for gaining insights into the latest trends, best practices, and innovative API use cases,” he said.

The event has scheduled renowned speakers, hands-on workshops and engaging panel discussions, allowing the attendees to deeply delve into API development, security, governance and their applications across various industries. (Colombo/September 06/2023)
