Sri Lanka to go ahead with 22nd constitutional amendment avoiding referendum
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s government will proceed to pass and enact a proposed 22nd amendment to the constitution subject to revisions based on a Supreme Court determination, Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said.
“While adhering to the proposed variations in the determination by the Supreme Court, we proceed to enact the 22nd amendment to the constitution avoiding a referendum,” the minister’s office said in a statement Tuesday September 06 evening.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told parliament Tuesday morning that the Supreme Court has cleared the draft amendment bill subject to some revisions.
