Sri Lanka state finmin: Premature to comment on allegations towards China on financial assurances
ECONOMYNEXT – Popular Sri Lankan culinary YouTube channel Apé Amma is the country’s highest-earning channel on the platform, according to a US survey.
CashnetUSA.com reported that the channel has earned an estimated 962,386 US dollars since its inception. The accuracy of the data could not be independently verified.
With over 2.7 million subscribers, Apé Amma cooking videos tend to generate hundreds of thousands of views on average, with crossing the 3 million and even 5 million view counts, which are high numbers for Sri Lanka.
Published in November 2022, the CashnetUSA reported noted that, despite the growing popularity of rival content creation platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Twitch, YouTube is still king. It is the second-most visited website on the internet (after Google) and boasts 14.3 billion visits per month, which is more than Facebook and Wikipedia.
Up to “694,000 hours of video are streamed on the platform every minute — impressive considering Netflix users stream just 452,000 hours per minute and offer feature-length movies right at their users’ fingertips,” the report said.

The survey used a database by the SocialBlade analytics service.
“We isolated the top-earning channel in every country and an estimation of the channel’s lifetime earnings. We broke down the results by region and channel type,” the report said. (Colombo/Jan30/2023)
