ECONOMYNEXT – Power cuts up to 5 hours have been approved for Sri Lanka for May 12, Public Utilities Commission Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said as money printing by the central bank triggered forex shortages, disrupting fuel imports.

All areas (ABCDEFGHIJKLPQRSTUVW) will have power cuts of 3 hours and 20 minutes from 08.00 am to 03.10 pm and 1 hour and 40 minutes from 06.00 pm and 09.50 pm.

Between 0600am and 0900am, the Colombo City centre could face a power cut of three hours.

CEB said the supply interruption time and restoration time will be varied within 30 minutes as indicated above.

PUCSL on Wednesday announced that if the curfew was extended the power cuts can remain at 3 hours and 20 minutes.

However, despite the curfew being lifted for only seven hours, the power cuts have still been extended to five hours.

Due to the current situation of the country, state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation was unable to deliver fuel on Monday and Tuesday, however, it was later announced that fuel will be delivered for essential places under security.
