ECONOMYNEXT – Power cuts up to 3 hours and 20 minutes have been approved for Sri Lanka for May 2, Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said as money printing by the central bank triggered forex shortages, disrupting fuel imports.

On May 2, all areas (ABCDEFGHIJKLPQRSTUVW) will have power cuts of 2 hours from 900 am to 500 pm and 1 hour and 20 minutes from 500 pm and 900 pm.

CEB said the duration may be reduced by 30 minutes either at the beginning or end of the slot.

Between 0600am and 0900am, the Colombo City centre could face a power cut of three hours.

The same schedule will be continued on May 4 as well.

PUCSL said there will not be power cuts scheduled for May 1 and May 3.
