ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka plans to allow up to four new players to distribute petroleum in the country who will be given state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation filling stations, Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.

The CPC has 1,190 filling stations and about 300 to 400 stations may be given to new players he said.

At the moment CPC and Lanka IOC are the only three players.

“I think not just a third player but up to four players should come,” Minister Wijesekera said.

The CPC was no longer able to supply the fuel requirements of the country.

Any new player will have to import fuel on credit he said. (Colombo/June26/2022)
