Sri Lanka passport issuance halted over computer glitch
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Department of Immigration and Emigration said the issuance and renewable of passports has been halted on May 05 over a computer glitch.
“Due to urgent computer system maintenance, passport applications under one-day and normal services will not be accepted today (05.05.2022),” a statement from the Department of Immigration and Emigration said.
Services were halted in all regional offices and the head office of the department while services were limited only to 12.30 pm on May 05.
The airport activities were carried out, as usual, it added.
However, news reports showed people protesting at these passport offices in Kandy and Battaramulla in Colombo asking for their passports.
