Sri Lanka may get US$100mn from AIIB: Finance Ministry

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has been promised 100 million US dollars from China’s Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank following a discussion with the lender’s President Jin Liqun and Finance Minister Ali Sabry, a statement said.

“A discussion was held regarding immediate emergency support to Sri Lanka and Mr. Liqun stated that in AIIB was considering the granting of USD 100 million to Sri Lanka in principle and he will discuss it further with the Board,” the Finance Ministry said.

Sri Lanka had also sought forex forex liquidity support for state banks from AIIB.

“A discussion was also held regarding medium to long term support to Sri Lanka.”

Minister Sabry had earlier said Sri Lanka was in talks with the AIIB for 160 million US dollars in credits. (Colombo/May08/2022)
