Sri Lanka curfew lifted at 0500am on May 15
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s curfew will be lifted at 0500 am on Sunday May 15, the government has said, being re-imposed at 600pm on Saturday.
Sri Lanka has imposed a nation-wide curfew to curb violence against ruling party legislators, after the country fell into a severe economic crisis after a soft-pegged exchange rate collapsed due to money printing.
The curfew is imposed under emergency rule. Whether the curfew will be re-imposed has not yet been informed.
May 15 is Vesak day and people generally travel to see decorations. However due to the soft-peg crisis, celebrations are muted and inflation is high.
Emergency rule will expire 14 days after it was imposed on May 06 unless extended by parliament.
